The BELT program is a joint venture between Cone Health and UNCG’s Kinesiology Department to facilitate participation in exercise for persons having recently undergone weight-loss surgery. The program, primarily staffed by Kinesiology Department graduate students, takes place in UNCG’s Kaplan Center for Wellness. Medical referral (usually from one’s bariatric surgeon) is required for participation.

  • To educate bariatric patients on safe and effective exercise training in a non-threatening environment.
  • To build confidence for long-term exercise participation.
  • To train a select number of students in delivering safe and effective exercise prescription to persons with a variety of obesity-related medical conditions.

If you are getting ready to undergo or have recently had weight-loss surgery and would like more information on the BELT program, please contact Dr. Paul Davis at [email protected].
