Bariatric Exercise and Lifestyle Transformation (BELT)
The BELT program is a joint venture between Cone Health and UNCG’s Kinesiology Department to facilitate participation in exercise for persons having recently undergone weight-loss surgery. The program, primarily staffed by Kinesiology Department graduate students, takes place in UNCG’s Kaplan Center for Wellness. Medical referral (usually from one’s bariatric surgeon) is required for participation.
GOALS
- To educate bariatric patients on safe and effective exercise training in a non-threatening environment.
- To build confidence for long-term exercise participation.
- To train a select number of students in delivering safe and effective exercise prescription to persons with a variety of obesity-related medical conditions.
