Orientation News Release

The Department of Kinesiology at UNCG recently welcomed the first cohort of 20 students in the new online Ed.D. in Kinesiology (EdD in KIN) program.  Classes are set to begin this fall for the EdD in KIN program, which is the first online doctorate program in kinesiology in the nation.  In order to welcome these students to UNCG and prepare them to be successful over the next four years, students were invited on campus to participate in a three-day orientation from June 19-21st.

During their visit, students had an opportunity to interact with members of the cohort, as well as with other graduate students, faculty, staff, and alumni. They received technology training with distance learning tools to prepare them for their online coursework and were provided with important information and resources by representatives from The Graduate School, Dean of Students Office, Financial Aid Office, Information Technology Services, Jackson Library,  Division of Continual Learning, and other groups on campus. Students also participated in a team building session facilitated by TeamQUEST at Piney Lake- UNCG’s outdoor recreation facility. Through collaborative and interactive experiences, orientation sessions were designed to help students identify professional practice issues in kinesiology, explore professional goals, develop professional relationships, and enhance leadership and communication skills.

Students and faculty alike enjoyed and benefited from this orientation event. We are excited to welcome this new group of students, who are already seasoned professionals in athletic training, physical education, coaching, military, clinical, and university settings.  This fall, the EdD in KIN program will begin accepting applications for next year’s cohort.  For more information about the program, please visit our website.
